Erciyes Ski Rental

The snow at Erciyes is light and powdery thanks to the dry Central Anatolian climate. That means skis do not bog down and turns feel light. In those conditions a mid-width all-mountain ski (78–86 mm at the waist) is the most balanced choice, working well both on groomed runs and in the fresh snow of early morning.

The resort's defining feature is its vertical: the descent from 3,400 m gives roughly 1,200 m of drop. On a run that long, leg fatigue becomes the limiting factor, which is why we advise against an over-stiff ski — stiff is stable at speed, but tiring.

If you plan to ski the steep, high pistes on the Develi side, ask for something longer and stiffer. If you are learning on the Hisarcık side, the opposite applies: short, soft and forgiving will make your first days far more enjoyable.

We offer two delivery models at Erciyes. If you are staying on the mountain we bring the equipment straight to your hotel, usually on the evening you arrive so you can be on the first lift in the morning.

If you are staying in Kayseri city centre you have two options: we deliver to your hotel in the evening, or you collect from our meeting point at the Hisarcık gate in the morning. Most people coming up from the city choose the second — it saves carrying skis in the car.

At handover we set the bindings in front of you and wait while you try the boots. It takes five minutes and should never be skipped: a mis-set binding or a pinching boot decides the rest of your day.

The Erciyes season opens in early December and runs to the end of April. January and February hold the most reliable snow, while March — sunshine combined with a base that is still intact — is the favourite window for experienced skiers.

To avoid crowds, aim for Tuesday to Thursday. At weekends the lift queues lengthen with day visitors from Kayseri and the surrounding provinces. The mid-term school break and New Year week are the busiest of the year; for those dates, reserve your equipment at least two weeks ahead.

The most common mistake on a 112-kilometre mountain is spending the whole day in one sector and never seeing the rest of it. Erciyes has three gates that give three different experiences, and choosing by ability directly determines how much you get out of the day.

If you are learning, spend the day on the Hisarcık side. The blue runs there are wide, moderately pitched and catch the sun, and the ski schools' learning area sits in the same sector. Even at midday you have room to make mistakes.

At intermediate level, the Tekir sector feels built for lapping. The chairlifts link together, so you can repeat one run to consolidate technique or move around the sector for variety.

If you are advanced, get to the Develi side early. The pistes there are steeper, start higher and are at their best before the snow softens. The full descent from the summit gondola gives roughly 1,200 m of vertical and will tire your legs in one go.

At Erciyes the first two hours are worth more than the rest of the day combined: freshly groomed pistes, firm fast snow and no lift queues. With your equipment delivered the night before, you can be on the first lift at 08:30.

Eat lunch at 11:30. The mountain restaurants fill between 12:30 and 13:30, and queuing then costs you half an hour. Eating early puts you on the snow while everyone else is inside — avoiding both the queue and the busiest piste traffic.

From about 15:00 the sun softens the western slopes. Moving to the shaded northern runs after that keeps you on better snow, and it is the habit that distinguishes skiers who know the mountain.
